We recorded this episode a week after the Los Angeles fires (1/2025), with heavy hearts we broached the topic how can we help our pets navigate and recover from fire and smoke naturally. Dr. Margo Roman shares her tips!
| FACT: Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT), aka Fecal Transplants, is the procedure of taking fecal matter “stool” from a healthy microbiome donor and transplanting it into the gut of an unhealthy microbiome recipient. This is done either orally by capsule or rectally. This procedure is beneficial for both animals and humans to restore healthy bacteria and bring the gut into eubiosis.
| FUN FACT: 'Microbiome Restorative Therapy' is Dr. Margo’s self-coined comprehensive term that involves fecal transplants (FMT) in combination with additional microbiome restorative therapies/
approaches to ensure the effectiveness of healing and eubiosis.
| FACT: Ozone Therapy is the administration of ozone gas (O3) into the body. This can be done by way of intravenous injection, topical application, rectal insufflation, or major autohemotherapy (the withdrawing of recipient’s blood, mixing it with ozone, and reinjecting it back into recipient)
| TIP!: most Ozone Therapies should be administered by a professional, however there are some procedures you can perform yourself at-home with proper training/education and equipment. Learn ‘how’ through the proper channels listed below!
| TIP!: Dr. Margo notes a common denominator occurring in most pets experiencing IBS - Plechner Syndrome - atypical cortisol estrogen imbalance. She highly recommends your pet getting screened/tested for this! For more info on Plechner Syndrome, visit here and here.
